Split Shaft Seals for Vertical Shaft Vacuum Mixers

MECO offers its custom shaft seals for slower-turning bulk processing equipment, including mixers, blenders, reactors, conveyors, dryers, bucket elevators, grinders, crushers and agitators. A wide range of shaft diameters can be retrofitted on vertical-, inclined- or horizontal- shaft equipment. MECO engineers specify the optimal, patented seal design and construction materials for each seal. FDA materials are available. Seals use different gas barrier fluids, at very low flow rates (under 1/2 cubic feet per minute).

MECO offers its “OFS” (outside face seal), a patented single-face seal design, for use on top-entry vacuum mixers. Many of these lack lower bearings and leak due to radial shaft misalignment, inaccessibility, shaft flotation or thermal growth. Unlike packed glands, the OFS can handle both axial shaft motion and 6 mm or more of shaft run-out, allowing it to contain a high degree of vacuum as well as process vapors. This can reduce process time and save energy. The OFS works in high temperature processes, though it uses no purge or flush system. Available fully-split for quick installation, without removing the bearing or lifting the drive. In sanitary applications, seals can be removed for daily cleaning where required. MECO seals are ideal for applications requiring vacuum containment, often increasing machine efficiency dramatically.
