Composite Powders

Aluminium Matrix Composites - Effects of Powder Compositing on SiC Distribution

Aluminium matrix composites are materials with very promising characteristics. Various additive materials and the different ways to combine additives and base material were tested to improve the overall characteristics.
Size Reduction

Ball-milling of Composite Powder - Cathode Production for Alkaline Batteries

Improving the capacity and longevity of alkaline batteries is since long an aim of intensive research. An approach for the production of the Kathode is presented here.
Silo Technology

Solving Outflow Concentration Problems Due to Cluster Segregation in Hoppers

Interruption of hopper filling can cause clusters of different undesirable powder composition inside the hopper due to segregation. Mechanisms which lead to this cluster formation were cleared up and an insert will be presented by which clusters can be destroyed during the hopper outflow. This ensures improved product homogeneity.
Shear Cell Measurement

Assessing the Flowability of Bulk Solids

Determin the relevant figures for a material which is stored and already compacted in a hopper.
Hydraulic Conveying

Analysis of Settling Characteristics of Fly Ash Slurry in a High Concentration Slurry Disposal System ...

In developing a reliable High Concentration Slurry Disposal (HCSD) system, an extensive study is needed on the rheological parameters of the slurry. In this paper an analytical study has been conducted to examine the settling characteristics of ash slurries with high solid concentration.
Cement Handling

Modification of Control Charts for Limestone Quality Under Autocorrelated Condition

Traditional statistical process control charts used for the quality control of minerals assume that observations are independent and normally distributed about some mean value. The validity of the interpretation of out of control condition largely depends on these two assumptions.
Particle Science

Logistics of Bulk Materials II - Specification of Basic Tasks

The optimization of bulk materials handling technology using methods of logistics can create significant competitional advantages. Therefore, operators and producers of bulk material handling and processing equipment are very concerned about the optimization of their products.
Coal Handling

Coal Storage and Oxygen Access

The phenomenon of spontaneous combustion of coal gained attention in the late 19th century when it caused great loss of cargo and ships during the Industrial Revolution. The risks involved with this phenomenon are always present where large amounts of coal are stored or transported. Therefore, the design of a coal storage facility should always include investigations into possible self heating and spontaneous combustion scenarios.

Development of a Shear Cell for Measuring the Wall Friction of Bulk Solids with a Ring Shear Tester

To calculate silos and to conduct comparison and flowabilty measurements, the flow properties of powders and bulk solids must be measured. For this purpose, mainly so-called shear testers are used. The Jenike shear tester [1], a translatory shear tester, is frequently employed in practical applications.

Simplified Procedure for Pressure Drop Prediction in Low-Velocity Slug-Flow Pneumatic Conveying

Based on powder mechanics and packed-bed model, theoretical equations have been derived [4] to predict pressure drop in low-velocity slug-flow pneumatic conveying of bulk solid materials. By applying and analysing these equations, it was found that the effect of packed-bed aeration characteristics on the prediction of pressure drop can be neglected.
